The
Underground Railroad - By
James Michael Newell
fresco, 10' x 14', 1940
This fresco is in very good condition and it is rich in color and
content,
representing an important era in the history of the Mohawk
Valley. The
artist for this mural was James Michael Newell. Newell was
assisted by his
wife, Mardy Allen.
This
page was created in memory of
Cornelius "Gus" DeRidder – a Dolgeville mail carrier for many years.
Gus, as he was known to most residents, was a friend to all in
Dolgeville, and just an all around great guy. Gus used to take me, and
other boys, shooting skeet and was just like a Dutch uncle to us all.
This meant a lot when a boy has few friends. Gus was always the
gentleman and a caring son to his mother. The Web Master
